The Student Activities staff advise several of the student organizations that we work most closely with and serve as general resources for students and staff alike.
Dirron Allen, Assistant Dean of Students & Director of Student Activities
Dirron’s spirituality, incredible partner, two children, and commitment to helping others are his priorities in life. He grew up in a military family and had the privilege to explore different parts of the world. Dirron considers Woodbridge, VA to be his hometown. He graduated from JMU with a B.S. (Sport Management) in 2000. He completed his M.S. (Higher Education) from Mississippi State University in 2003. He has been employed at Temple University, Towson University, and joined UVA in March of 2016. His interests include basketball, volleyball, Star Wars, the MCU, and lifelong holistic wellness.
Michelle Streeter, Assistant Director of Student Activities
Michelle received her B.S. in Mathematics from Davidson College, where she first developed her love of programming boards and college unions, and her M.A. in College Student Development from Appalachian State University. She’s had the pleasure of working at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Davidson College and most recently, UVA. Fun fact: Back in the day, Michelle used to work in Housing & Residence Life at UVA as an Area Coordinator. Michelle loves the vibrant buzz of the PAC and seeing students learn and grow during their time at the University. While she works most closely with the University Programs Council and the University Board of Elections, Michelle more generally supports the programmatic side of the Student Activities Office. She currently lives in Charlottesville, Virginia with her husband and two rescue dogs. In her free time, she enjoys doing calligraphy, practicing yoga, and can frequently be found playing board games on Tuesday nights.
James Silay, Program Coordinator for Student Activities
James, a native of Pittsburgh, PA (and of course a Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan), graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 2014 with a B.A. in Sociology and minor in Anthropology. While attending CWRU, James was highly involved with Student Activities, Greek Life, Orientation and Housing & Residence Life, which led him to discover the field student affairs. Upon graduation James attended the University of South Carolina for his M.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs, where he worked primarily with the student programming board. At UVA James works closely with the University Programs Council and Arts Board, in addition to supporting the growth of the After Hours programming initiative. In his spare time, he enjoys staying active through running, swimming, reading and cooking. Fun fact: He completed his first marathon in May 2017.
Kelly Chambers, Program Coordinator for Student Activities
Originally from Virginia Beach, VA, Kelly graduated from UVA in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Cognitive Science. While an undergrad at UVA, she was a Resident Advisor for two years and an active member of Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship. Now, she is excited to be back at UVA working in Student Activities! Prior to this role, she worked as an Academic Advisor at American Public University System (APUS) in Manassas, VA, for almost two years, and then completed her Master’s degree in Higher Education & Student Affairs (HESA) at the University of South Carolina in May 2016. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking, volunteering at church, and playing the violin with the Blue Ridge Chamber Orchestra.
Patricia (“Trisha”) Herndon, Office Manager
Patricia “Trisha” Herndon is originally from Alexandria, Virginia though she has been all over the country as she was fortunate that her father was in the Air Force. Trisha attended the University of Arkansas @ Fayetteville and transferred to Bluefield College where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management and Development. Trisha Herndon has worked with Student Activities since coming to UVA in 2013 as the Office Manager. When Trisha isn’t working she enjoys playing with her three dogs or gardening.
Angel Pittman, Graduate Assistant
Angel Pittman is a graduate of Bennett College (for Women) in Greensboro, N.C. Upon graduation she accepted a position teaching third grade at Friendship Public Charter School-Chamberlain Campus. Angel was a Friendship teacher for three years teaching both second and third grade before departing to attend UVa. Currently, she is a student in the Master of Higher Education program at the university and is projected to graduate in May 2018.
Angel has a strong student leadership background working in roles such as, vice-president of the Student Government Association, National Education Association student representative for the state of North Carolina, a resident assistant and numerous other positions of service.
Angel is an avid reader and writer, active member of her church community, passionate educator and dedicated member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Nate Pede, Graduate Assistant
Nate Pede, who grew up in Ashburn, Virginia, recently graduated from Christopher Newport University in 2017 with a B.S. in History and minor in Political Science. As an undergraduate student, Nate has held leadership positions in Residence Life, Student Honor Council, and Greek life (Sigma Phi Epsilon, ΣΦΕ). He is currently working toward his M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration at the University of Virginia, anticipating graduation in May 2018. He enjoys most outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, swimming, boating, and skiing. Fun fact: Nate also enjoys carpentry projects such as building furniture.
Lauren Nalley, PAC Manager
Lauren Nalley, originally from Bangor, Maine, is a fourth year studying chemical engineering with a minor in materials science engineering. She is actively involved in Student Council, Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity, and as an undergraduate student researcher in the materials science department. Her pastimes include spending time in the great outdoors and expanding her Spotify library.
Zainab Oni, Assistant PAC Manager
Zainab is a fourth year studying Political and Social Thought in the College of Arts and Sciences. She is originally from Lagos, Nigeria but grew up in New York, New York where she will return to post-graduation. Last year, Zainab was a PACA and this year she will be the Assistant Manager in charge of Student Activities communications efforts. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, playing tennis, and hanging out with friends.
